Combining housing and work has become an increasingly present issue in contemporary living. The apartment is owed by a young architect who wanted a cool space to live that could, at the same time, be his place to work. In other words, the proposition was to harmonize home and work, but keeping their specific features.

In a building of the 90's, excessively compartmentalized, the apartment underwent a renovation so as to make better use of its areas. As the key element of the project, the old balcony, separated from the room by walls, was leveled and integrated into the internal space, expanding the living space and increasing the sense of spatial integration. The beam, a prominent element of decoration marks the point in which the two areas were connected.

The kitchen and the laundry, which were also separated by a wall and a door, were integrated, with the same intention of making a wider space, as well as making the building’s original “cobogó” (cast brick, formerly hidden in the laundry) more visible. The room, more introspective, received dark tones on the walls and ceiling. In the office, an old family refrigerator was adapted as an archive.

Regarding materiality, low-cost materials were used in order to respect the budget and to meet the owner’s aesthetic expectations. OSB wood was used in most part of the furniture. The new electrical installations were made apparent with galvanized steel ducts. On the walls of the living room and on the kitchen floor were used concrete textures with the intention of giving to the space an industrial trait.
